With boundaries dating back to Saxon times, the parish of Otterford lies 10 miles south of the county town of Taunton, and 6 miles north-west of Chard. It is located in the heart of the Blackdown Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with a population of around 380.

Most residents of the parish live in Bishopswood, in the south-east corner of the parish. The village has a chapel, The Candlelight Inn and a village hall . Other amenities within the parish include St Leonard’s church, Otterhead lakes and The Holman Clavel pub.

The nearest shops and post offices are Churchinford (3 miles), and Combe St Nicholas (3 miles). The nearest infant/junior school is in Buckland St Mary (1 mile).
